Agree or Disagree?

There is always more than one way to look at something!

One example is that of the new trains coming to St. Paul.

On one side, the trains are faster than buses. They can hold more people than buses. They are clean and make less pollution than cars or buses.

On the other side, the construction is a problem for many people.

There are machines everywhere, and the cars have to go very slow now. Many businesses say that they might have to close, because customers can't get to their doors. Also, the construction is very expensive.

St. Paul Public Libraries

Public libraries are a great community resource.

At the library, you can read books and magazines, use the computers, look for jobs, and take classes.

You can see a schedule of classes at Riverview Library if you click HERE.

Using the library is free if you have a library card.  To get a library card, you need to live in St. Paul.  You show your ID card to the librarian, and she helps you fill out an application.

You can borrow books, movies, and CDs for free, but if they are late, they charge you a fine.  How long can you keep the books?  How much is the fine?  How do you renew books, movies, and CDs?

The library is open most days of the week, at morning and at night, so more people can go.  Click HERE to see the library schedules.

Do you like the library?  Why?  What are your favorite things to do there?  Please click "Comments" to answer.

Neighborhood House is here for you!

Neighborhood House is located inside the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building.

Neighborhood House has been in St. Paul since 1897.  Wow!  How many years is that?

The Education Program has many classes for adults: English classes, GED classes, computer classes, and citizenship classes.  Education is important for your life in the United States, and we want you to succeed!  We have classes all day and in the evening, too.  If you need childcare, you can talk to Brooke and she will help you.

The Basic Needs Program wants to make sure that you have enough food in your house!  If you are a student here, you can go to the food shelf once a month and get food for your family.  They can also help you find free clinics and winter coats for your children.  You can ask teacher Jon about the services they offer.

The Youth Leadership Program gives children fun and educational experiences to help them grow into leaders.  In the Youth Center, they can get help with their homework, draw, sing, dance, and play basketball.  In the College Access Center, they can learn about universities and getting money to go to school.
