Our blog is active again!

Our blog here at Neighborhood House is active again. I'd love everyone to post a sentence or two introducing themselves.

  6. There are advantages and disadvantages to blogging or using Facebook. Blogs are open to all Internet users. Depending on settings, anyone can view; anyone can comment. Facebook requires a membership. Both will generally allow email notifications or newsreader access. For me, it's a toss-up. I use both.

  7. Hi everybody! I'm Sarah. I teach in the evenings. Teaching at Neighborhood House is one of my favorite things to do! I really love to help people learn.

Like our students, I have also lived and learned a new language in another country, in China and in Ukraine. I speak English (of course), Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and Russian.

I like to think that my language learning experience helps me to be a better teacher. I remember how much my head would hurt from so many new words! Sometimes my throat was sore from making new sounds. Even so, I learned many ways to say things in many languages. I hope my students can find many ways to be successful learning English!

  8. Hi, I just thought I would add a sentence or two more about my background. I have also lived in another country and learned the language. I studied French and Italian and worked as a nanny in Sicily. I love the fact that I can communicate with some of the Somali elders in Italian here at Neighborhood House. I hope I can learn some words and phrases in my students' first languages too.
